Day 4. We arrived at West Palm Beach for breakfast after 35 miles. I'm a little sore you know where, really hungry, not tired, and smelling like a turkey farm. But I have baby powder for that, L hospitality for the next, and a shower and a washing machine to fix the other evils. Happy Thanksgiving, and I'm on the road again on Saturday, but riding alone. Tom has a business conference to attend.

We're getting fitter: We did 81 miles today and never felt tired. We passed downtown Miami, over to Miami Beach for lunch, swam in the sea at Fort Lauderdale, and cruised on to Deerfield Beach by evening. Tomorrow we have only a short 35 miles to the Lapsleys who are preparing Thanksgiving.

Day 2: Good riding. We left the Keys and crossed the bridge into the "USA". Arrived in Homestead after riding 71 miles. We were almost killed by a reckless Porsche, and we nearly hit two pedestrians on the bike path who were not paying attention! It's dangerous on a bike.
Day 1: We set off from "the Southernmost Point in the USA" at 6 am. By mile 6 we had our first flat tire, and then another at mile 13. Too many broken beer bottles along the route. Then we made better progress but there was always a head wind. We crossed the Seven Mile Bridge, and found a motel at mile 68 to rest our weary bodies.

Amtrak arrived 3 hours late in Jax, but Tom and Kate
were there and my luggage. We drove all day to Key West, arriving at 8 pm. We got photographed passing inadvertently an automated toll on the Florida Turnpike, but the bikes covered the license plate and saved us from a $100 fine, yahoo! Dinner and a good sleep, ready for takeoff tomorrow.

Today I went to Penn Station on my bike - quite interesting biking in midtown Manhattan. I dismantled and packaged my bike a day ahead because there are no baggage facilities at New Rochelle, and Metro North won't take bikes during the peak period. It poured torrential rain the whole way. Tomorrow, I take Amtrak's Silver Meteor to Florida, leaving at 8.30 am and arriving at 7.00 am Saturday. I'm really excited.

I have my Amtrak ticket, my bike ticket, I'm organizing my luggage and accessories for the bike. I've been riding 100 miles a week to get into shape. I'm ready to roll. Can't wait.
